This route is along the old way into Cofete before they built the track. The trip takes about 4 hours round trip, just to the top of the mountain, but it is much quicker coming back as it is downhill all the way. If you walk all the way to Cofete you would probably need another hour and time for a coffee or beer in the bar.
To get to the start you need to get to the road that leads to Cofete and Punta de Jandia. Drive along there and then on your right you will see a sign that says Red de Camios de Pajara Gran Vallee - Cofete. This is the start of the walk.
At the beginning of the path it is very well defined with walls on either side, just a gentle slope up into the mountains. There is a farm to your right and a few sheep and goats wander about near the path. It's quite a novelty to see sheep on Fuerteventura.

As you go further along the path becomes a track and it looks like you will not be able to get through the mountains without a very high climb. The track, however, meanders round the hills and the slope gradually gets a little more steep.
Towards the end it is very steep, but you can see that the top is quite close, its not as high a climb as you would expect as you get closer to the top of the mountain . When you do arrive you get a good view of the Villa Winter, Cofete and the sea.
The path down the other side hugs the side of the mountain, but it is fairly wide and seems fairly easy to negotiate. We couldn't try it out though, as when we took the walk as the winds at the top of the mountain were incredibly strong and it would have been dangerous to walk there given the strong gusts. The wind was strong enough to blow a person over!
As we couldn’t get to Cofete, the walk back for us was much easier with a gently slope all the way. The views on this walk are quite impressive, but there is another walk, up the Pico de la Zarza, the highest point on Fuerteventura, that also gives excellent views of Cofete, but with this one you can’t get down to Cofete, and it is a harder climb as it goes higher into the mountains
You may want to check the Fuerteventura Weather before you go.
