I have always been one of those people who love to go to karaoke bars determined that I will get up and ‘strut my funky stuff’, show the world what a star I am and be whisked off to start my new life as a Pop Star. Unfortunately I suffer from EWM syndrome (Everybody’s Watching Me). The symptoms include sweaty palms shaky knees quivering voice and a total inability to sound like anything remotely human.
A friend of mine decided it was time I stopped being a closet Pop Star and came out. He had seen an advert for Good Time Studio in Fuerteventura just 5 minutes from Corralejo and booked me a session. He said it was fantastic value for money and had cost him a lot less than the studios back in England.
I had the best time ever. I was welcomed by the studio manager, who showed me into the Studio which is packed with all sorts of gadgets, high tech equipment and a vocal booth. I had already chosen my song, and had practiced it all week at home in the bath. I felt like a real star as I donned the headphones and entered the vocal booth.
The studio manager had to make a few adjustments to my voice and even showed me some breathing techniques to help vocal control. By the time I was ready to leave, the disc was sorted and even had a picture of me on the front. I was well impressed. My mom thinks I look and sound like Gwen Stefani, but she’s the only one. But at least I have now lived my dream. And although I may never get to be a Pop Star, I was a Star for a Day and it was the best experience ever.
It is a fantastic experience and I will always have the memory of that day on my very own CD.
