Arretrankos, Puerto del Rosario,

This is currently a daytime event, held as part of the pre-lent Carnaval.

The Carnaval de Puerto del Rosario kicked off yesterday, the 10th of February with the IV Carretera de Arretrankos.

This is a collection of "vehicles" that are raced through the street of Puerto. There are different categories but we are not sure what they are. Over two slightly different routes, tThe vehicles assemble at the top of a hill and are timed getting to the bottom, steering around a couple of bends in the road in the process. Getting help from a push is allowed, and the breaking systems on these vehicles leaves a lot to be desired. As with most Spanish Carnaval behaviour there is a lot of cross-dressing, its all great fun and is finished off with music performed at the government building opposite the church.These are photographs of the event.
