Tetir, Fuerteventura

Tetir is a very nice Spanish village that has a mixture of old and new features and is well worth a visit. It is situated 9.2 km, half way along the main road that runs to the west of Puerto del Rosario.

The church was built at the beginning of the 18th century under the patronage of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, and takes its name from him. It has a single nave with a tiled roof. The presbitary is higher than the nave, with a four sloped roof. The front facade is the bell tower that was built in 1880 is formed from various layers one on top of the other which get smaller as the tower goes up. It is quite pretty inside.

On the 2nd Sunday of each month there is a Mercado Artesanal or craft fayre. Here you can buy typical canarian products and other goods that are made on the island. When we were there you could also have a camel ride or a ride on a donkey cart and listen to some Canarian folk music.

Tetir is in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, about 10km from the capital itself.

There are several bars, a supermarket and a nice Spanish bakery where we had a nice cake!

It has the normal childrens' play area and a large hall for lucha canaria, - Canarian wrestling.

It also has an unusual tree which is full of snail shells, and there are still a few farms with livestock.
