Villaverde, Fuerteventura.

Villaverde is just north of La Oliva, on the road between La Oliva and Corralejo. The village is in the hills between the extinct volcanoes of Mount Escanfraga on the east side and Mount Arena on the west side.

The village has grown considerably over the past 15 years and is a thriving village which offers locals and visitors a range of places to visit.

In the past the fertile volcanic soil and the natural underground wells made it an ideal area for growing crops, and is the reason why there are two windmills (now restored) on the escarpment on the south side of the village, for dealing with the grain that needed milling. The windmills present a worthwhile photographic opportunity, and there are excellent views of La Oliva and Mount Tindaya from the ridge.

As it is a large village it has a large supermarket and a smaller supermarket; a rural hotel; seven bars and restaurants; a bakers; a farming co-operative; and three museums.

The local goats cheese is a regular winner of prizes as the island´s best cheese.

The Fiesta of San Vincente is held in the days leading up to April 15.
