Costa Antigua, Fuerteventura

Costa Antigua is situated on the east coast of Fuerteventura, close to Caleta de Fuste , and only a short distance from Fuerteventura airport. The area is very "up and coming" and has improved a great deal recently, mostly due to pressure from the Neighbourhood Association on local polititians. The area was originally developed with tourism in mind, Caleta Paraiso and Cocosol being two of the more established complexes, which are now privately owned having been originally built as holiday complexes. The hotels that are in Costa Antigua,are the Costa Tropical, Piramide and the Elba Lucia.

The visitors that appreciate Costa Antigua most are those that are looking for a relaxing break, a short distance away from the more touristy town of Caleta, it is very friendly as there is a community of residents, rather than just tourists. These days Costa Antigua is fast becoming the place to be!

Situated across the road from the Caleta Paraiso complex is Stoners restaurant and bar, Volveretta where you can have a quiet drink with friends and the Crazy Goat Bar, which does great entertainment even in the evenings.

In the Antigua Bay complex, a little further towards the sea, there is an Indian/Mexican restaurant, a Spanish tapas bar, a Chinese restaurant. You can also find Benny's bar which is a great spot to watch sports or to pick up a pizza, open from midday to late. And round the corner is a further restaurant called the Mina Sun which does a range of meals at a very reasonable price.

Costa Antigua also has Bubbles Laundry and the Hire Hardware shop. There is a marshall arts centre and a small gymnasium. The Costa Tropical hotel has a hairdressers whre you can get a bit of pampering.

If you want to get to Caleta there is path along the coast that is populated by amusing chipmunks, that you can hand feed. This walkway has street lighting and which makes walking into or out of Costa Caleta after sundown a reasonable option. For those of you that regard walking as something not to be done on holiday, Caleta can also be reached by taxi. The fare is around 5 euros.You may also take the free bus courtesy of the Elba hotel, but this is dependent on the mood of the driver! This leaves the Castillo Elba at 10.20,11.20,12.20,15.20,17.20,18.20 and 20.20, and arrives at the Atlantico Shopping Centre 15 minutes later, then goes up to the golf course hotel before returning to the Atlantico. There is generally no problem using the free bus but its best to tip the driver a few coins.It is meant for the hotel residents though

You can also walk the other way towards the airport following the path.
