Sailing.

You could write what we know about sailing on a spinnaker but, Fuerteventura could have been made for sailing. The wind blows nearly every day and its extensive coastline provides a variety of water conditions that offer a challenge at whatever level you wish to participate in the sport (or leisure).

There are half a dozen marinas and harbours dotted around the island, so you are never too far away from one when you are on the island. The leisure marinas at Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste seem to be busiest in terms of small sailing craft.

The Canary Islands have their own class of sailing called the Vela Latina, and there are regular competitions during the summer months. We will find out a little more about this subject soon.

It is possible to hire sail boats and catamarans and there are several larger catamarans that offer day trips, usually with the promise of seeing dolphins.

For a slightly different take on sailing, have a look at our los archipencos page. If you are here when this event is on its well worth a visit.
